POLICE have reminded Islanders that they can be fined for breaking the governments ban on public gatherings after they issued three fines in Ryde today (Thursday).

The Isle of Wight Police have taken to Facebook to remind the public they can be prosecuted for 'flouting the legislation.'

A spokesperson for the police wrote on Facebook: "We have been out and about today, I’m currently walking around Ryde so thought I would update you that we have issued 3 fines for blatant breaches of the guidance, and numerous warnings have been issued.

"We have a list of those we have spoken to so will be seeking enforcement action if we find them flouting the legislation.

"Rest assured we will take action against those and ask that you bear with us."
