KNITTERS across the Island are urged to get their needles out in aid of Age UK Isle of Wight.

The charity has launched its 16th annual Big Knit campaign that sees people across the country knitting as many hats as possible in aid of the elderly in need.

Each hat will be attached to a bottle of Innocent Smoothie, and for every bottle purchased, 20p will be given to the charity.

Elisha Leachman, fundraising manager for Age UK IW, said: “We need our Islanders to join us and help knit as many miniature hats as possible.

"This is a fun way to keep busy while giving something back to a great local cause.

"It’s such a fun campaign to get behind and it does so much to help older people on our Island.

"The money raised will make a big difference to the lives of older residents by helping to fund our befriending services.

"These, for many are a lifeline, a relief from loneliness, and help our older Islanders to stay connected.”
