A YOUTH has been interviewed by Isle of Wight Police following a widely-publicised incident in which a Royal Mail post van was targeted by three young people.

A video of the incident, which happened in Brighstone, was shared on local, national and social media.

Isle of Wight Police said the incident has been closed and an 'outcome' decided for the young person at the centre of the incident.

They said: "Many of you will have seen the footage that was doing the rounds on social media last week and many conclusions were drawn based on limited information.

"The update is that a young person has been identified, interviewed and has fully admitted their involvement.

"We will be providing no further detail on either the identity of that young person or the eventual outcome they may or may not receive.

"I fully appreciate this level of detail is not what some of you will want, however given the age of the people involved the law is clear on what we can and cannot say.

"This matter is now considered as closed with appropriate advice and an outcome for the young person.

"Please can I urge you all not speculate any further."

The incident happened during the coronavirus lockdown.

Current government rules prevent groups of more than two people going out together, unless they are family members on an essential journey.
