PRODUCTION is being maintained at Neutrik’s UK facility on the Isle of Wight, the company said this week.

It came in response to criticism that several Isle of Wight factories were remaining open during the coronavirus outbreak.

Neutrik said it would continue to manufacture, in line with government advice, and said many of the components it makes are used in manufacturing and maintenance of medical equipment, including devices used in critical care.

Additionally, it also supports the secure transmission of audio and video signals, data streams and electrical power supplies.

A spokesperson said: "The company has taken note of the government’s express opinion that it wishes engineering manufacturing to carry on, particularly in respect of ‘essential industries’, where this can be done safely for staff.

"While keeping the situation under daily review, the company has decided to maintain production at the site, implementing a stringent health and safety programme to reduce to the greatest extent possible any possibility of anyone becoming contaminated with Covid-19.

"This ensures only staff absolutely required onsite come into work. All other staff are working from home.

"Staff onsite are closely supervised and work in conditions that strictly adhere to WHO and UK Government guidelines, and wherever possible exceed these.

"Social distancing is enforced at all workbenches, and hand washing and distancing are encouraged at each morning meeting. Hand sanitiser remains widely available.

"Break patterns and numbers have changed to ensure minimum numbers at any one time and the ability to maintain distance between colleagues.

"No visitors are allowed on site, and we have reduced our shipments to ensure minimal contact with external agents."
