HAVING a loved one die at any time is difficult, but living under the Isle of Wight coronavirus lockdown, the process is even more painful.

Joanna Minchin, a member of the well-known Laird family from the West Wight, sent us this heartfelt plea, after the death of her mother Shirley Laird.

"Due to the coronavirus, we cannot attend our mother’s funeral.

"On Wednesday at 1030am our darling Shirley will arrive at our Isle of Wight Crematorium alone, accompanied only by the funeral directors and local vicar.

"At this time, my family will do a one-minute silence and we invite family, friends and the wider world to join us.

"We ask you stand for one minute to remember Shirley but also in solidarity with those who can neither be with their loved ones when they pass, nor attend their funerals.

"Please also consider the heroes who work tirelessly on our behalf; last week we clapped for the incredible NHS staff; this Wednesday at 10.30am I ask that we thank our social care workforce.

"With care homes locked down loved ones are now unreachable; add staff shortages and the role of the care home is even harder.

"For those living with dementia, life has just become more confusing; it is a rotten time.

"Sending this message to family and friends all over the world, hence 10.30am British Summer Time.

"Thank you for sharing far and wide."
