FIREFIGHTERS were called to a large bonfire in Yarmouth this afternoon (Wednesday).

At 4.37pm, two fire engines from Freshwater were called to the scene at Halletts Shute.

The unattended bonfire was extinguished using two jets, and firefighters stood down at 5.37pm.

A spokesperson for Freshwater Fire Station said: "Please stay home to help save lives, and please don’t light huge bonfires and leave them unattended, because we want to stay home too — as much as possible."
