VENTNOR has been left without a post office, after the sudden closure of the branch on the High Street.

The town has already been hit by the loss of all its banks and the post office played a key role for residents wanting to deposit cash, withdraw pensions and change money.

It has led to concern that locals will be without vital services, especially those reliant on public transport.

Staffing issues are being blamed and customers are told to use alternatives in Wroxall or St Lawrence.

Although The Post Office said the measure was ‘temporary’, it was not able to say when it would be reopened.

“A spokesperson said: “Ventnor Post Office is temporarily closed from today (Tuesday), due to staffing issues.

“It is unknown at this stage when the branch will re-open.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this temporary closure. Alternative branches currently include Wroxall and St Lawrence.”
