A COASTGUARD rescue team was called to a location close to Gurnard Sailing Club yesterday (Monday) following reports of sewage being dumped in the sea.

A crew from Needles Coastguard was called to assist the Environmental Agency and Southern Water at around 6pm.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Coastguard said: "A team from Needles CRT was tasked to investigate, following reports of pollution near to Gurnard Sailing Club yesterday (Monday).

"The team arrived at the location at around 6.15pm, and liaised with the Environmental Agency and Southern Water — the latter remaining on the scene overnight to pump out stagnant water.

"The Needles Coastguard team were released at approximately 7.15pm."
