HAPPY birthday to 'nostalgia' station Angel Radio, on the Isle of Wight, which is celebrating its 13th birthday on an FM frequency today (Tuesday March 24).

The station started life in 1999, broadcasting from rooms in Pyle Street in Newport.

In 2001, it began broadcasting on the former Wight Cable network, from Love Lane, before finally launching on FM 91.50.

Currently broadcasting on the internet, the station has been battling to repair its equipment after a kit failiure just before Christmas.

The team says Angel Radio plans to return, bigger and better.

Bev Webster, Programme Controller said: “We were granted permission to improve our coverage range recently, which should allow us to reach further afield."
