AS schools shut their doors for the foreseeable future tonight (Friday), the Isle of Wight Council says it expects 'nearly all' of them to reopen for vulnerable children and those of the Island's key workers on Monday morning.

In line with government advice, the youngsters of health and social care staff, teachers, military personnel, emergency service workers, some council workers and delivery drivers can still attend, to allow their parents to work.

County Hall says schools are in contact with families regarding arrangements and free school meals.

An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said: “Headteachers and their staff have been magnificent over the past couple of weeks keeping schools open across the Island. The response of school staff has been outstanding."
