A SECOND cornavirus case has been confirmed on the Isle of Wight.

Public Health England has released its latest update — which confirms the new case on the Island.

It follows news last week of the first COVID-19 diagnosis being confirmed on the Isle of Wight.

The data is as of 9am this morning (Saturday), but has only just been released, in a table of confirmed cases.

So far, 1,140 people have tested positive in the UK, of which 21 have died.

Earlier today the number of UK deaths rose from 11 to 21, with the total number of confirmed cases increasing from 798 to 1,140.

In addition, leaders from around the world have taken precautions to halt the spread of the virus.

In the US, President Trump announced a ban on flights to and from the UK and Ireland, and French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has ordered the closure of all restaurants, cafes, cinemas and nightclubs, as well as 'non-essential' businesses, with effect from midnight tomorrow (Sunday).

The Isle of Wight Council’s director of public health, Simon Bryant, said last week: “If you have recently travelled to an affected area or been in contact with someone who has, and you think you have symptoms associated with the coronavirus, you should not go to A&E or your doctor but self-isolate yourself at home and use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service that can tell if you need medical help and advise you what to do

"To do this, visit 111.nhs.uk/covid-19, or ring NHS 111.”
