A WOMAN who had to be picked up and carried out of a pub to stop her abusing staff has pleaded guilty to counts of assault and racial abuse.

Michelle Cullen, 34, pleaded guilty at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday to one count of assault, two counts of assaulting a police officer, racial harassment, two counts of criminal damage and a further count of possessing cannabis.

It was detailed how Cullen, of Preston Close, Ryde, entered the Railway pub in Ryde on November 19 where she became verbally abusive to staff and customers as she drank.

Prosecuting, Vivian Ducie said: "She was shouting and swearing at customers who were there for the weekly pub quiz. Eventually she was asked to leave the pub but refused.

"At this point a member of the public picked Ms Cullen up and carried her out of the bar whilst a member of bar staff followed.

"She then kicked out, striking the member of staff in the face.

"When police arrive she spat at the officer and pulled his beard while making racial comments towards him and saying she would kill his family.

"While in the cells she made repeated threats to assault staff, broke an officer's radio and urinated against the cell door."

For Cullen, Barry Arnett, said: "In interview she accepted everything she had done and was deeply ashamed of herself.

"She is shocked that she would be racist at all, given that she works with and has friends from multiple cultural and ethnic backgrounds."

The magistrates chose to adjourn Cullen's case to April 14 for sentencing.
