A SANDOWN man under a life-long sexual harm prevention order has been sentenced for not declaring two dating site user names.

Scott Maloney, 39, admitted one count of breaching his order at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday, when he failed to declare two account names he had on the dating app Plenty of Fish.

Vivian Ducie, prosecuting, said: "His order compels him to register whatever usernames he may have with the police as and when he sets them up.

"In 2009 he received a conviction that saw him being placed under the order for life."

For Maloney, Barry Arnett said: "Had he not breached his order once before, back in 2011, he would not be appearing here in front of you.

"He had gone on a trip to Dublin and had failed to inform the police. As a result this is his second breach of the order.

"He set up the dating profiles because he was lonely. His wife had been working long hours and as a result he was in need of people to talk to.

"I have seen the messages between him and others on the sites and there was nothing sexual or untoward. He had just been making conversation."

Maloney was fined £80, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £32.

UPDATE October 2023: Mr Maloney's Sexual Harm Prevention Order will now cease in January 2025.
