TODAY'S football programme involving teams from the Isle of Wight has again been hard hit by the weather — this time, Storm Jorge is the culprit.
All three Island teams which play in the Sydenhams Wessex League have had their games postponed due to waterlogged pitches — Cowes Sports v Alresford (Premier) and East Cowes Vics v Laverstock & Ford; Verwood Town v Newport (Division 1).
Brading Town's huge Hampshire FA Trophy semi-final away at Moneyfields Reserves remains on and has been switched to an artificial pitch in Gosport, with a 2pm kick-off, but Shanklin pulled the plug on their semi-final against Fareham Reserves yesterday (Friday) after the referee deemed the County Ground to be unfit to play on.
Shanklin's semi-final will be played at the County Ground next Saturday, kick-off 2pm.
On the Isle of Wight, the following matches have been called off for the same reason:
The Andy Butler Sports Ground Specialist Isle of Wight Memorial Cup, second round: Niton Community v Adgestone.
The Ken Morris Isle of Wight Junior A Cup, second round: West Wight Reserves v Sandown Reserves.
Harwoods Renault Isle of Wight League Division 1: Bembridge v Sandown; Binstead & COB v Cowes Sports Reserves; ECS v Carisbrooke United; Northwood St John v Ventnor; Pan Sports v West Wight; Whitecroft & Barton Sports v Ryde Saints.
Division 2: Newchurch v Seaview; Newport Reserves v Oakfield; Osborne Coburg v Wootton.
Combination 1: Carisbrooke United Reserves v Seaview Reserves; Oakfield Reserves v Brading Town Reserves; Ryde Saints Reserves v Binstead & COB Reserves.
Combination 2: Wootton Reserves v Ryde Saints A; Niton Community Reserves v Pan Sports Reserves.
However, at the time of this report going on-line, the Island League Division 2 fixture, Vectis v Yarmouth & Calbourne (kick-off 1.45pm), and the Combination 2 match, Yarmouth & Calbourne Reserves v Vectis Reserves (Kick-off 3.45pm), remain on and are to be played at Cowes Enterprise College's artificial pitch.
