RORC Transatlantic-winning racers from the Isle of Wight, Richard Palmer and Jeremy Waitt, have set sail again with their next challenge, to continue their purple patch in the 12th edition of the 600-mile dash around 11 Caribbean islands — the RORC Caribbean 600.
The Cowes sailors set off from Antigua yesterday (Monday) in Richard's British JPK 10.10 yacht, Jangada, and have set a good early pace, currently lying in third place in the IRC 2 class and winning the two-handed crew race.
Richard and Jeremy are one of four two-handed crews in the race, which features more than 700 sailors.
The course they are sailing will see them circumnavigate 11 Caribbean islands.
Starting from Fort Charlotte, English Harbour and Antigua, they will head north as far as St Martin and south to Guadeloupe, taking in Barbuda, Nevis, St Kitts, Saba and St Barth’s.
The last time a British team won the RORC Caribbean 600 was Niklas Zennström's JV72, Rán, in 2012, on best corrected time.
