CONCERN that a man had gone into the River Medina led to Cowes RNLI lifeboat, three Isle of Wight Coastguard teams, and Isle of Wight police carrying out an intensive nighttime search over the weekend.

Coastguard teams were called at 11.15pm, with the lifeboat launched at 11.40pm on Friday night in response to concerns that a man had gone into the upper reaches of the river.

A spokesperson for Cowes RNLI said: "With the aid of an onboard searchlight, the lifeboat proceeded to painstakingly search from the area of the Folly up to the Riverside Centre at Newport Harbour.

"Eventually, after finding nothing, the lifeboat returned to the station at 3.25am."

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Coastguard said: "Rescue teams from Ventnor, The Needles and Bembridge received a call to search for a missing person shortly after 11.15pm on Friday night.

"After several hours of searching, the man was found by police safe and well at his home, and we stopped our search at 4.45am."
