FIRE crews, police and ambulance were called to a two- vehicle collision in Sandown this morning (Saturday) which saw one person trapped.

Crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to a two vehicle crash outside St John's Church on Carter Street at 7.27am. One vehicle crashed into the stone wall of the churchyard.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were called to help extract one person from a vehicle that we believed to be smoking.

"We sent three appliances, one from Sandown, one from Ryde and another from Shanklin.

"The person was safely removed from the car and handed into the care of the ambulance service.

"Crews sent the stop message at 8.10am."

The road was closed during the incident.
