WITH a double feature at Ventnor Arts Club, live from the Royal Opera House, and a film starring Oscar winner, Renee Zellweger, arthouse is in good hands this week.

On Tuesday, at 7pm, Ventnor Arts Club is screening Dances at a Gathering and The Cellist, performed together, live from the Royal Opera House.

The inspiration for choreographer Cathy Marston's first work for The Royal Ballet main stage is the momentous life and career of the cellist, Jacqueline du Pre.

Jerome Robbins’s elegant and elegiac classic forms the second part of the programme.

On Wednesday, Ryde Film Club is screening award winning Italian drama, Cinema Paradiso, at 7.45pm.

Hosted in the Ryde Methodist Church hall, the film, starring Philippe Noiret, tells the story of a filmmaker who recalls his childhood when falling in love with images at the cinema in his home village, forming a deep friendship with its projectionist.

Also that night, Ventnor Arts Club is showing Love and Dying ­— a special film screening, plus Q&A ­— at 7.30pm.

David and Jill George of Island-based Utility Films present their latest documentary ­— which asks if there should be a change in the current law relating to assisted dying.

On Thursday, the club is screening Judy, starring Renee Zellweger, at 7.30pm.

Its winter, 1968, and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in swinging London to perform a five-week sold-out run at The Talk of the Town.

Featuring some of her best-known songs, the film celebrates the voice, the capacity for love, and the sheer pizzazz of 'the world's greatest entertainer'.
