Storm Dennis has claimed its first event casualties of the weekend, with Spirit of the Orient at Robin Hill and Medina parkrun being cancelled.

Robin Hill said it had decided not to run Spirit of the Orient on Saturday and Sunday, but had extended the celebration of the Chinese New Year until Sunday, February 23, to give people more chance to go along.

In a statement today, Vectis Venutures, owner of the park, said: "We’re really excited to launch our seventh year of Spirit of the Orient this evening and hope to see lots of familiar and new faces join us for the evening.

"However, in order to ensure the safety of both our customers and staff, due to the poor forecast weather, we have been forced to make the tough decision to postpone the February 15 and 16 Spirit of the Orient evenings."

Tomorrow's parkrun at Medina College/Seaclose Park is also off.

John Hepworth, event organiser of Medina IOW parkrun, said on Facebook: "Storm Dennis is on its way and, based on the forecast of heavy winds, we cannot guarantee a safe run for all the runners, walkers and volunteers.

"For this reason, the Core Management Group has decided that we need to cancel tomorrow's run. We will see you all on Saturday, February 22, all being well."
