THANKS to the mammoth efforts of a small team of hard-working volunteers, the annual Shanklin Rotary Club charity sale raised more than £41,000.

The sale, held as a pop-up event at Lower Hyde, beat last year's total.

It started with a queue of 100 people, waiting patiently in the rain for the doors to open, and was consistently busy for the next two weeks.

It finished on Saturday afternoon, when local charitable causes were invited along to help themselves to the leftover items.

John Fleming, of Shanklin Rotary Club, said: "We have not got an actual total yet but we do know it is more than £41,000.

"We can only do this thanks to our volunteers, so a big thank you goes out to them. It is a lot of work but it is worth doing.

"Everyone looks forward to it and we collected items from all over the Island, not just the Shanklin area, so thanks to all those who donated too."

All the proceeds go to local, national and international good causes.
