A DRINK driver who crashed into two parked cars — which caused her Mercedes to spin around and burst into flames, and left her friend with a broken jaw — has been banned from the roads.

Roxanne Emily Wade, 27, of Aspen Gardens, Ryde, who works for an investment firm, admitted drink driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

The court heard she had left her car at a friend's house ahead of a night out in Newport.

Prosecutor Ann Smout said: "She and a friend later returned to her other friend's address, where the door was locked and the lights were off, so she decided to get in her car and drive.

"In Gunville Road, she hit a Range Rover parked on the side of the road, which then shunted an Audi parked behind it.

"Ms Wade's car then span 180 degrees and even caught fire, although Ms Wade and her passenger were able to escape the vehicle.

"Police arrived on the scene at around 2.20am. They took Ms Wade and her passenger to the hospital, the passenger suffered a broken jaw."

The court heard Wade had a blood alcohol reading of 126. The legal limit is 80.

The two vehicles she crashed into suffered extensive damage, and one was written off.

Oscar Vincent, defending, said: "She is a senior associate at an Island based investment firm. She had been on a night out with friends that, up until that moment, had been entirely without incident.

"Efforts to get a taxi had proved unsuccessful. It was cold and the middle of the night in November, so she drove."

Magistrates sentenced Wade to a 12-month community order, including 120 hours of unpaid work, and banned her from driving for 22 months.

She was ordered to pay a surcharge of £90 and court costs of £80.
