FIRE crews were called to an address near Blackwater this afternoon (Saturday) after smoke from a lift raised concerns.

Crews from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called to the property on Blackwater Hollow at 3.15pm.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were called when people at the property saw smoke emitting from a faulty motor in a lift.

"We sent two appliances from Newport, and an appliance from Ryde as well as an aerial ladder.

"We inspected the lift and there was no further action from us."
