A HOST of Isle of Wight businesses took part in Brightbulb Design's Mince Pie Marathon in the lead up to Christmas, raising £3,100 for charity.

The Ryde based design team delivered more than 3,000 mince pies to all parts of the Island on December 18 — with 84 businesses taking part to help raise funds for the Wight Brainy Bunch.

All mince pies were donated by supermarkets, travel company Travel Counsellors and other supporters.

Newport business IDML contributed branded marathon T-shirts for the team, and Leslies Motors supplied a branded electric vehicle to deliver the pies alongside two branded London cabs.

Matthew Jeffery, Brightbulb Design chief executive, said: “Island businesses fully embraced the enterprise. Contributions from our team delivery service were bolstered by Hovertravel, who sold the mince pies they purchased to commuters for extra donations.

"Staff at Carisbrooke Shipping challenged each other to their own office marathon to earn their mince pies, and we had businesses following us all day on social media to track our progress and see when we'd turn up at their door.

"We arrived in the middle of a meeting at IFPL in Carisbrooke to resounding applause, and parked the cabs for a communal party in the street.

"It was a day when the Island went mince pie crazy."

Money raised will help the Wight Brainy Bunch provide further assistance to Island families affected by brain tumours with their travel to Southampton, counselling, specialist equipment and memory-making breaks.
