EAST Cowes man Daniel John Joyner, known affectionately as Weasel, killed himself at the local cemetery.

An inquest into his death, held at the Isle of Wight Coroner's Court yesterday (Wednesday) heard the police were alerted by his former partner after he sent a distressing photo to her.

They immediately launched a search, utilising multiple police units, but his body was found soon afterwards by a man who was walking through the graveyard at Kingston Road.

Efforts were made by police, paramedics and an armed response team to administer CPR, but nothing more could be done to save him.

Mr Joyner, who was unemployed and lived with his mother at Gort Road, was 33 and leaves behind two children.

The inquest heard he had significant past psychiatric history including depression, social phobia and suicidal intent.

Although not known as a heavy drinker, he was nearly twice the drink drive limit when he died.

The cause of death was hanging.

Isle of Wight Coroner Caroline Sumeray said Mr Joyner had a complex mental health history going back some years and she could not be sure he actually intended to take his life.

She concluded an open conclusion.
