FIREFIGHTERS responded to an alarm at Christ the King College this morning (Tuesday) — only to find there was no fire and the alarm had been deliberately set off.

The Newport crew arrived at the school, at Wellington Road, Carisbrooke, and quickly discovered their time had been wasted.

The automatic fire alarm was set off shortly before 10.30am.

The Blue Watch team posted on twitter: "This turned out to be a break glass that was maliciously broken.

"This could have led to delay if there was a serious incident occurring at the same time and could put people at risk.

"Please be responsible."

UPDATE 2.49pm: A spoksperson for Christ the King College said the glass on the fire alarm was smashed by accident, and not done deliberately.
