A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of a man carrying out tree surgery work.

The 42-year-old was working at Castlehaven Lane, Niton, yesterday afternoon (Monday) when he suffered a serious injury.

As reported, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was called to the scene.

An Isle of Wight police spokesperson said: "We were called at 2.22pm on Monday, January 20, to assist the ambulance service following reports a 42-year-old man needed medical assistance at Castlehaven Lane, Niton.

"It is believed the man was assisting with tree surgery work when he suffered a serious injury.

"He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital however he was pronounced dead a short while later.

"His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"As part of our enquiries, we arrested a 42-year-old man from Niton on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence.

"He has been released from custody but remains under investigation."
