AREAS of Ryde and St Helens were hit by a powercut last night (Saturday).

The fault — which affected postcodes in the PO33 and PO35 areas — was reported shortly before 10pm, with restoration completed shortly after 330am today (Sunday).

A spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said: "We are sorry for the loss of supply. The power was affected by a fault on an underground cable, most likely due to flooding.

"The majority of power was restored within 20 minutes, after the fault was isolated. The remaining areas were not restored until shortly after 330am the following morning."
