EMERGENCY crews have been called to a Shanklin home this afternoon (Saturday) after a woman was taken ill.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service called firefighters for assistance at the Sandy Lane property shortly after 1pm.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said it was initially reported as a fire, and crews from Shanklin and Ventnor were sent to the scene.

"It initially came through as a fire, but on arrival they were just needed to gain entry to the property," said the spokesperson.

An ambulance service spokesperson said paramedics were helping a female patient following a medical episode.
