COMMUTERS faced a lengthy wait to get home to the Isle of Wight yesterday evening (Thursday), due to Hovertravel cancellations and reduced Wightlink sailings.

As this picture posted on the All New Spotted Isle of Wight Facebook page shows, huge queues built up at Wightlink's FastCat terminal.

As reported, the hovers were suspended due to high winds in the Solent, forcing passengers to head to the FastCat instead.

However, Wightlink is running a reduced service on its FastCats for seven weeks while maintenance work is carried out.

The picture was shared by one commuter who said: "Great, turned up for the 6.15pm cat as my regular 5.40pm is cancelled for the next six weeks with no relief boats. Hover also cancelled.... looks like we will have to wait for the 7.20pm now, which is going to be late."
