IT'S ALWAYS an impressive sight — the Classic Tractors Charity Road Run wound its way around the Island on Saturday.

More than 100 people assembled at the Eight Bells pub in Carisbrooke, before a convoy of 53 tractors and three trucks set out towards Chale.

The route passed through Shorwell and Brighstone, then along the Military Road to Compton Farm, for a bite to eat.

This year's run was dedicated to John 'Butch' Butcher, one of the organisers since its inception in 2010, who died last year.

In his memory, £475 was donated to Mountbatten and £475 to the Newport Alzheimer’s Cafe.

Co-organiser David Lemonius said: "We would like to thank the event's sponsors, Needles Pleasure Cruises, whose generosity has enabled us to give all of the donations received to worthy causes.

"Our thanks also go to Anna Smith for her delicious food, the Eight Bells for their kind hospitality, the landowners and farmers over whose land we passed, and of course the police, who give us advice on our route.

"We were delighted with the turnout and appreciate all the participants and onlookers who helped to swell the funds, supporting us even as the weather took a turn for the worse."

The next tractor run will take place in December.
