BURNT toast triggered an alarm in Ryde this morning (Monday) — prompting a visit from firefighters.

The Newport crew, which was training in Ryde at the time, was called to the Longmead Road property 10.55am.

An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an alarm that had been activated by cooking fumes. This was due to burnt toast.

"We sent one appliance from Newport and some advice was given."
