THE opening date of Sandown's new Premier Inn has been delayed.

The seafront hotel and restaurant was due to open in the spring, but has now been pushed back to the summer.

Geoff Cook, senior project and programme manager, said: "Despite recent challenging weather conditions, we’re pleased to be making steady progress.

"Construction of the building’s frame has been completed and we’re now moving onto weatherproofing the building, installing mechanical and electrical systems and beginning the internal fit-out of the hotel.

"We’re currently on course to complete construction and open our doors to the new hotel and restaurant in summer 2020.”

He said the project was a 'complex construction and engineering challenge' and the team was working hard to complete it with minimal disruption to neighbouring homes and businesses.
