MESSAGES of support and the phone number for The Samaritans have been left at the top of Culver Cliff.

Pebbles painted with inspirational messages have been dotted along the cliff edge, and posts have been tagged on the fence with the phone number for those needing to speak to someone — 116 123.

Alan Doe, Bembridge RNLI's community/coastal safety officer, said on Facebook this week: "Happy New Year to all from Bembridge. I was walking along the top of Culver Cliff over the New Year and was delighted to find lots of delicately painted pebbles on the fence post, each with an upbeat message and a number to phone if you are not feeling great.

"A big thank you to whoever has done these. An excellent intervention."

Isle of Wight Coroner Caroline Sumeray said at a recent inquest she would welcome more signs at Culver, promoting the work of the Samaritans.
