A CHRISTMAS Day call-out proved fruitless for Isle of Wight police.

Officers were called to attend an incident in Ryde on the evening of Wednesday, December 25.

Shortly after 11pm, police arrived at Appley Lane, but despite a report of an assault, no victims were located — or any witnesses.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: "We received a report of an assault just after 11pm.

"When officers attended the scene no victims were located and no witnesses could confirm the reports.

"A search of the area was carried out and enquiries are ongoing."

Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area can call 101, quoting 44190462222.
