THE Bay CE School in Sandown sent 47 Christmas hampers to the families of students following generous donations by the community.

A hamper appeal was launched by the school's Compass Wellbeing Team, who wanted to provide comfort to some of the families who need help most.

The school said it had been overwhelmed by the number of items received. Donations were made by students, parents and staff, with additional food contributed by Morrisons in Lake.

Last year, the school provided hampers for 20 families but managed to more than double the quantity this year.

Carrie-Ann Cartmel, safeguarding team leader, said: “We are delighted 47 families were able to enjoy Christmas that little bit more when they received their hamper.

"I am proud of the whole school community for pulling together to make the hamper appeal such a success."

The hampers included essential household items and luxury Christmas treats.

Each also included toys donated through the Isle of Wight Radio Toy Appeal.
