AN ISLE of Wight scout group will be putting Co-op donations totalling more than £1,700 to good use, by purchasing archery equipment to allow their members to gain additional skills.

The 1st Northwood Scout Group currently has around 75 youth members, boasting a strong leadership team and supportive executive committee.

A spokesperson the the group said: "We would like to thank Nick and his customers at the East Cowes Co-op for their kind donation of £1778.61 as part of their community fund."

Dave Searle, group scout leader, said: "It is the first time we have been involved in such a scheme and we will be putting this fantastic amount of money to good use.

"We are planning to buy our own archery equipment so all sections of our group from Beavers, Cubs and Scouts right through to adults can take part.

"We are also hoping to replace the trailer we use to transport all our kit to camp — this will go a long way to helping us achieve our goals."
