AN EIGHT year-old girl had her locks chopped off to raise money for charity — hoping to help other children who have cancer.

Sydney Trueman raised money for the Little Princess Trust by having her hair cut on December 12.

Sydney's mum, Beth, said: "I would like to say how proud I am of my daughter. I initially didn’t want her to get her hair cut as it was so long and I thought she may regret it — she’s only had it cut twice, and they were little trims.

"We left it a while, but she kept nagging me to let her donate her hair to The Little Princess Trust, having researched it all herself and given me all the information.

"After about six months I realised she was totally dedicated to doing it, so I agreed."

Beth applied online for a donation pack and set up a JustGiving page, and just three weeks later Sydney had her hair cut at O’Hanlon and Ray Hair in Newport, with the salon cutting it for free.

Sydney has raised more than £250, and checks the giving page every morning and every night in the hope of further donations.

She said: "I chose The Little Princess Trust because I wanted to help children feel beautiful.

"By giving my hair to be made into a wig for a child with cancer, it might help just one poorly child feel happy for a little while."
