VISITORS to the children’s section of the Lord Louis Library in Newport can enjoy the new mural on the wall.

Author and illustrator Jules Marriner has painted a nature-themed mural inspired by the illustrations in her book Nature Calls.

She said: “Each two-page spread is a different month in the book, and May is my favourite because of the rainbow.

“I thought it would add something special to the wonderful atmosphere of the library.

"People will see lots of animals and birds that live on the Island, with the relevant names next to them for easy identification.

“I spent a lot of time when I was developing the book, figuring out the phonics for the bird song and animal noises, so even if you can’t see the creature you have a chance of identifying it.”

Jules has donated her fee to the IW Story Festival, which will take place in February 2020, at the Riverside Centre in Newport.

The author, who is also one of the organisers of the upcoming event, said: “I’m really excited. We have got Korky Paul of Winnie the Witch fame, and Nick Sharratt who has illustrated all the Tracy Beaker books, as well as for Michael Rosen, Julia Donaldson and Jeremy Strong.

“We will be announcing more inspiring authors soon. It promises to be an amazing two days of story fun.”
