A PEDESTRIAN has been hit by a car on the main Binstead Road this afternoon (Sunday).

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has sent two rapid response cars to the scene, and Isle of Wight Police have closed the road.

Traffic is expected to be heavy in the area and Southern Vectis buses are diverting.

Bus routes 4 and 9 are currently unable to serve between St Vincent's and the top of Binstead Hill due to the accident, so are diverting through the residential estate.

The IW Ambulance service confirmed a road traffic collision had taken place, with a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

The male casualty has been flown to a mainland hospital by the Hampshire and IW Air Ambulance.
