A CRASH between two cars has led to Station Road in Sandown to be temporarily closed.

Hampshire Fire Control mobilised an officer and fire appliances from Shanklin and Ryde fire stations to the incident, which happened just before 1pm.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is in attendance as there are two casualties, described as stable with no serious injuries.

The area was already busy with traffic due to Yaverland Road being closed earlier in the day, and traffic diverting up Avenue Road.

Southern Vectis have diverted Routes 2, 3 and 8 along the Broadway, Avenue Road, High Street and Albert Road.

UPDATE 2.50pm: One adult female extricated from vehicle. Two adult females have been taken to hospital by ambulance.

UPDATE 4pm: The road is now open. Southern Vectis Routes 2, 3 and 8 have returned to normal line of route.
