A FULL house packed into Freshwater Memorial Hall for the annual pensioners' Christmas lunch.

The meal for nearly 100 people, for some of whom it would be their only Christmas celebration, was supported by Freshwater and Totland Parish Councils.

Tributes were paid to Totland Bay's Waterfront landlord Adie Bolton and his chef Marcin Halbiniak who contributed, and cooked, all the food.

Adie said: "A lot of the people who were here support us during the year, so we felt we should put something back into a community event.

"We were proud to be able to help out in our own way."

Cllr Jan Cave, chair of Totland Parish Council, said: "We've never had so many people here, we couldn't fit any more in.

"So many people are left on their own on Christmas Day, so this was our chance to give them a special celebration."

Cllr Anne Bamford, chair of Freshwater Parish Council, said: "This was a joint effort between the two parish councils and we can't thank our committees and volunteers who all came to help on the day. It was a wonderful community occasion."

Among the volunteers was West Wight PCSO Catherine Quinn, who helped serve the food.

Entertainment was provided by Neil Love on guitar with '60s music, supported by singer Colin Thompson.

The Christmas tree was supplied by Shide Trees, Newport, and decorated by The Waterfront.
