POLICE arrested a teenager in Newport this afternoon (Friday), on suspicion of common assault after a public order incident in the town centre.

Police were called to McDonalds on Saint James' Street after it was reported that threats were made towards someone inside.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Police said: "We were called at 1.53pm with reports of a public order incident at McDonald’s in Newport.

"Officers attended and stopped a group of youths on Chapel Street.

"One member of the group, a 16-year-old boy from Brighstone, was arrested on suspicion of common assault but has subsequently been released with no further action."
