RESIDENTS and businesses in Ventnor have been left without electricity today (Friday) after a power failure hit the area.

Areas of Ventnor, including the High Street, have been affected, but Southern and Scottish Energy said it aims to have it fixed by 7pm.

The power went off at 7.59am leaving four PO38 postcodes without power throughout the day.

A spokesperson for SSE said: "Engineers have found an underground cable fault which they are now working to repair.

"We’re sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed.

"Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can."

The areas affected are PO38 1LT, PO38 1RZ, PO38 1ST and PO38 1SX, comprising 23 properties.

UPDATE: High Street from its junction with Tulse Hill to its junction with Spring Hill has been closed for works by SSE to repair the low voltage mains fault to restore existing supplies, backfill and reinstate.
