A MAN who was discovered at home by his carer, lying at the base of the stairs, died after a fall, the Isle of Wight Coroner concluded.

Ronald James, 79, was discovered by his carer when she visited him at his home on Jellicoe Road, Ryde, during the morning of March 7.

He was was found lying at the foot of his stairs.

Coroner Caroline Sumeray heard how prior to his death, Mr James had previously suffered with heart failure, which contributed to his injury being more severe.

She said: "Mr James was an elderly gentleman who lived alone. It is clear he had slipped down and struck his head.

"I am satisfied that on the balance of probabilities, Mr James died as a result of an accident and that is what I am going to record."
