SEVERE gales have been forecast for the Isle of Wight this weekend.

Local forecast service the Isle of Wight Met Service, issued a yellow weather warning for wind on Sunday.

It said: "A spell of very strong winds are likely to develop as we move through Sunday.

"Severe Westerly gales gusting up to 65-70mph are possible in exposed coastal areas and over higher ground leading to the risk of falling tree debris, and while we aren’t expecting too many problems, there could still be some minor structural damage to buildings and property.

"Delays to travel and transport are possible and cross-Solent travel is likely to be affected."

The warning is in force from 2pm on Sunday through to 4am on Monday.
