OLDER people who want to continue to learn are encouraged to join a new Isle of Wight U3A group.

The new group will open on Thursday, December 12, at 2pm at St John's Church Hall, St John's Road, Newport.

A spokesperson said: "Everyone who is retired or mainly not working is welcome.

"Although it is election day, we would like people to come along before or after they have voted and register their interest."

U3A is a self-help educational charity which encourages older people to continue to learn.

Members can form groups to learn about anything that particularly interests them, and resources are available to support them.

There will be a monthly meeting with a speaker, and the first will be beekeeper Mary Case on January 9.
