A CAR that police believe had only just been purchased has ended up on its roof today (Tuesday).

Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash just off the Whiteley Bank roundabout near Shanklin this morning, after a Toyota was found overturned.

It is believed the driver lost control of the car, which is likely to be a recent purchase.

Police have asked for anyone who recognises the vehicle to get in contact by calling 101.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Police said: "We were called to a single vehicle collision on the B3327, just off the Whiteley Bank roundabout, just after 9.10am today.

"A black Toyota MR2 had overturned and the driver had left the scene. It is believed the driver had not long purchased the vehicle.

"We are appealing for any witnesses to the crash and anyone who may have recently sold a car like this one to contact us."

The driver is described as being a white male, in his late teens, of average build, with short dark hair and wearing a dark hoody.

Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident number 173 and today's date.
