UPSET that he was banned from Morrisons, a man started a fight with a security guard and ended up wrestling with him on the ground.

Andrew Coward, 47, of Carisbrooke Road, Newport, admitted one count of assault when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

The court heard he entered the Newport supermarket on October 31, and was told by a security guard he was banned.

As Coward was led away, he started a fight that ended with both of them wrestling on the floor.

Prosecuting, Vivian Ducie said: "He entered the store where there was a confrontation with members of staff.

"The whole affair ended in a tussle, and the two men ended up wrestling on the floor."

Henry Farley, defending, said: "He had gone to Morrisons the day before, where staff told a friend of his they were banned.

"Mr Coward asked staff if he was banned, and he tells me they said he was not.

"The next day he returns, and all of a sudden staff tell him he is banned.

"As he was ushered away, he did take it rather poorly."

Magistrates sentenced Coward to a two-month curfew, from 7pm to 7am.

A 12-month community order, imposed in March for a previous offence, will remain in place.
