A SOUTHERN Vectis bus was taken out of service yesterday (Tuesday) after rocks were reportedly thrown at the vehicle by children, smashing a window on the top deck.

The bus company tweeted that the 3.39pm Route 2 service from Sandown to Ryde would not run 'due to an act of vandalism.'

One of the passengers onboard the bus said the incident happened at Lake Hill, heading towards The Heights leisure centre.

"There were two children, aged around 12 to 14. They had a hand full of rocks and peppered the bus with them, resulting in the broken window.

"A passenger come down from the top deck and told the driver the window was broken. The driver pulled over, had a look and called for a replacement bus."

Richard Tyldsley, Southern Vectis general manager, confirmed: “One of our vehicles was hit by an object this evening in Lake. As a result, we had to take it out of service. Luckily nobody was injured. We are currently carrying out an investigation into the incident.”
