GREEN Party co-leader, Sian Berry, has visited the Isle of Wight to support Vix Lowthion's General Election campaign.

On Friday, following the launch of the party's manifesto, ‘Now Is the Time,’ and her appearance on ITV's leadership interviews, Ms Berry spent the day in Newport meeting party members, supporters and members of the Island community.

She and Ms Lowthion toured Downside Community Centre and the Isobel Community Cafe. They spoke with adult learners at the Prison Officers' Association (POA) weekly drop-in, had lunch and saw first hand the community facilities.

Her visit concluded with a meet and greet event at Cafe Isola.

Ms Berry spoke about the party's electoral pact with the LibDems against the Conservatives, and said: "We have the opportunity to break into more new seats than I’ve ever seen. They are all on a knife edge and they depend on the momentum being behind us and ensuring the time is right.

“The extra effect of having the local LibDems getting behind us and supporting this campaign means so much goodwill across the Island for something that is cooperative and is grown up.

"It could be the extra factor which pushes us across the line on the Isle of Wight. It is really exciting — and we can do it.”

Other senior party members including Baroness Jenny Jones and deputy leader Amelia Womack have also visited the Island to support the campaign.
